Horse Memorial Journalism Scholarship
The
Crazy Horse Memorial Journalism Scholarship is funded by the Crazy
Horse Memorial Foundation. Crazy Horse Memorial is the site for
the annual Native American Newspaper Career Conference.
The
scholarship is given to a Native Amercain student(s) attending
or planning to attend a college to pursue a journalism career.
$2,000 in scholarship money is given each year. The student(s)
receiving the scholarship may attend any college or university
and is not required to major in journalism.
Native
American students interested in applying for the scholarship can
contact David Bordewyk, general manager of the South Dakota Newspaper
Association, for an application form.

The
application deadline is March 1 of each year. A scholarship committee
with representatives from the South Dakota Newspaper Association,
The Freedom Forum Neuharth Center at the University of South Dakota
and the Journalism Department at South Dakota State University
will review the applications and award the scholarship at the
annual Native American Newspaper Career Conference each year.
Lem
Price Memorial Scholarship
The
Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation also annually awards the Lem Price
Memorial Scholarship to a Native American photojournalism student.
The scholarship is in memory of Lem Price a Native American photojournalist
from Missoula, Mont., who died in a car accident just before he
was to attend the 2002 Native American Newspaper Career Conference
at Crazy Horse Memorial. For information about this scholarship,
